Beach volleyball expects greatness

The Riverview Rams added a key sport to the athletic department this year with beach volleyball. Beach volleyball is an upcoming sport and will do very well with the pool of talent the program has to choose from at Riverview.

The girls at Riverview are excited as well. Madison Binkley ‘21, FSU beach volleyball commit, says the addition creates outstanding opportunity for RHS athletes.

“I think the new Riverview beach volleyball program is amazing because beach volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the US,” she said.

The program that is already inheriting a lot of naturally talented beach volleyball players as well as indoor players is looking to perfect little areas and sharpen the game up for big matches this upcoming season.

With a lot of indoor volleyball players bringing their talent to the sand, the chemistry is pretty solid already.

“I love being able to do what I love with the people I love,” Binkley said. That says a lot.

Along with the chemistry comes talent. McKenna Flaherty ‘22 and Binkley make a strong one team for the Rams. They are followed up by strong players on other teams such as Ella Pfiel ‘21 and Mariah Walker ‘20, who were a big part of the indoor volleyball team that was so successful.

This program has very stellar coaching as well, bringing in the JV Head volleyball coach as well to help this team achieve their goals. Annie Montgomery is a decorated beach volleyball player who won a national championship at Florida State University with their beach program after playing indoor volleyball for the Rams during high school.

As for the expectations of the season, the bar is set pretty high.

“I expect that this season will be an amazing kickoff to the new sport of beach volleyball at Riverview and hopefully take home a state title,” Binkley said.
