Teacher Feature ; Emily Waple

Emily Waple first started working toward a degree in business at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, but she realized business wasn’t exactly for her. So, then she thought about what else she would like to do which led to her seeking a degree in teaching. While in college, Waple majored in English with an emphasis in teaching and minored in ESE. Why she choose these subjects is that she has a brother and a sister who are both 10 and 12 years younger than her and she stated she always enjoyed teaching them new things, and that this is what led her to teaching. Waple has been teaching for six years now. “If I had to choose something else, I think I would like to teach about the human minds and relationships--for example, psychology or sociology,” she sai Her favorite part of teaching would be working with her students. She thinks building relationships with her students is her favorite part of teaching. “The fact that I could have actual conversations and be able to teach higher content is something I could never picture herself teaching if I were with younger kids, so high schoolers were the best choice for me,” she said. Waple is married and has a son, Landon who is 2 years old.
