First basketball home game this season
The boys varsity basketball team opened the season with a bang! The Rams faced the Venice Indians in the regular season home opener. The stands filled quickly to see what this year’s team had in store for the crowd. After a very productive offseason the team was ready to get back in action.
“We wanted to go out there and just make the game as fun as possible,” said junior Matteo Catena.
The Rams came out dominating the first quarter, scoring 13 points before the Indians put any points on the board. They lit up the gym with a series of steals and dunks from sophomore Jayven Millien. Halftime came quick, as the Rams were already ahead 47-20.
Coach Ivey continued to lead the Rams in the right direction trying to make sure his team got the most out of this game.
“We have a lot of talented players and everyone can help this team win,” Ivey said.
Sure enough, everyone on the team got in the game and helped to contribute. Ivey emphasized before the game that his plan was to play at a fast pace. The team has been working on this aspect of their game in previous practices.
The Rams went on to absolutely destroy the Indians, with the final score being 80-40. Jayven Millien finished with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Zach Mobley also contributed with 11 points of his own.
The Rams hope to continue to win and remain undefeated on their home court for the rest of the season.
