Track team heads to regional tonight in Lakeland
The Rams’ track and field team is moving on to regionals. After the athletes’ amazing work at the district meet on April 13, athletes scoring in the top four places in their events will be moving on to the regional meet on April 26-27 at George Jenkins High School in Lakeland.
These athletes have been working hard all season to make it this far. Members have been putting in countless practice hours on top of a jam packed meet schedule. This pushed the Rams to score consistently at in season meets, as well as at districts.
For the boys, Lucas Caragiulo ’20, a distance runner on the track team, ran a 1.58 in order to score first in the 800-meter race. Caragiulo has been working extremely hard this season, coming to practice every single day after school in order to make sure he made it to regionals.
Luke King ’20 ran a 16.92 in the 110-meter hurdles and finished third, Jayden Cray ’20 finished fourth in the boys’ long jump, and John Anthony Giromini ’20 finished second in the boys’ pole vault.
The girls’ track and field team did just as well. Hailey Manitz ’21 ran a 17.60 and finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, Tara Kelty ’20 ran a 49.43 and finished fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, Alexa Tarohocker ’20 won first in the girls’ high jump and triple jump and fifth in the long jump, Lauryn Dougherty ’19 won first in the girls’ pole vault, and Megan Hogan ’19 finished fourth in the girls’ district meet.
These athletes have worked incredibly hard this season to make it this far. Runners that place in the top spots in their event at Regionals will move on to the state track meet at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville on May 4-5. Competing at the state meet is a grand accomplishment, both individually and for the Rams as a team. The potential to bring home some hardware from the state meet will be the main goal for all the athletes competing at the track meet Adding to the medal count here on campus is always an exciting feat.
