Quarantine survival takes a little creativity
As I am sure we can all agree, quarantine has been an unexpected turn of events to say the least. As we acclimate to an adjusted schedule of Netflix binging, drawer organizing, video game playing and online learning, it can be difficult to adjust to this new normal. If you are feeling just as stir-crazy and alone as the rest of us, here are some ways to help occupy your time, feel productive and make the very best of this saddening situation.
1) Binge a new show!
A fun way to keep enjoying your favorite Netflix shows and movies is using the chrome browser extension “Netflix Party” which enables a group of friends to tune into the
same program together, synchronizing play, and allowing users to chat together throughout.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness: If you haven’t seen it already… firstly, where have you been? Secondly, you have to give it a try! This hit docuseries explores the life of Joe Exotic, a big cat exhibit owner and breeder, as he navigates the bizarre underworld of Big Cat breeding. As he is charged with murder for hire, viewers are shocked to discover the unique intricacies of this lifestyle and its eccentric characters. Did Carole Baskin feed her husband? That’s up for you to decide.
Love is Blind: Is love really blind? In this reality television series, singles try to find a match, fall in love, and get engaged -- without ever seeing each other face-to-face. This series tests whether emotional connection can conquer physical attraction, leading to an eventual marriage commitment.
This series tells the story of Spencer James, a rising high school football player with a recruiting offer to play for coach Billy Baker’s team in Beverly Hills. Forced to move in with Billy and his family, Billy's son Jordan, who is also the starting quarterback, is less than thrilled to be sharing his father's attention -- or the team spotlight. The show dives into the hardships and challenges that come with high school bullying, racism and classism.
2) Appreciate these optimal Florida quarantine conditions
Since we live where others vacation, this is the perfect time to self-isolate in the sunshine! If you have a pool at home, or a park and field nearby, enjoy sunbathing with a good book, your online school work, or simply an uplifting playlist.
Students suggest some of their favorite activities…
· Go for a bike ride
· Practice a new workout you’ve been wanting to try—barre, pilates, or yoga
· Go fishing
· Play sports with your siblings
· Practice a new skill outdoors such as, painting, dancing, driving, swimming
3) Develop a schedule... and stick to it!
Of course, a schedule to follow everyday can feel monotonous when stuck at home with no real commitments; however, developing a to-do list and a chronology for when you would like to get everything done will allow you to feel much more productive before getting into your binging of an entire season on Netflix until 3 AM. For many students online learning is made possible when they set aside a specific amount of allotted time for their assignments each day. Many have found that getting their work done early in the morning each day can set the tone for yet another, stress-free and relaxing day of quarantine.
