Ram gymnasium gets renovations just in time for basketball season

Basketball season is approaching quickly as winter is on the horizon. The players on both the men's and women's team have been grinding throughout the year to prepare for an unbeatable season.

Fans will not be disappointed when they attend a home basketball game as a Ram this season. Over the summer, some renovations were underway to improve the basketball court.

“The old floor was removed in its entirety. We now have an awesome new floor in the Ram gym,” explains Rudy Fraraccio, the head boys’ basketball coach at Riverview.

Fraraccio went into further detail as to why a new floor was necessary.

“We needed a new floor badly. The old floor was starting to stress, separate and crack in places of heavy use. It’s now a much safer surface for our student athletes and physical education classes,” he said.

The new floor underwent construction for about five or six weeks, including removing the old floor, installing the new floor, painting and sealing.

“Coach Fro”, as Fraraccio is called, also says that to keep the floor looking fresh each year, it is “stripped and resealed” each summer.”

Riverview's new Ram logo has also been added to the center of the court.

“The paint crew really liked the look of our new, intimidating, Ram (developed by IB science teacher Chad Smith). For Riverview ‘purists,’ we installed our original fighting Ram logo in corners on the baseline,” Fro said.

“Our players seem to be very excited about the new floor. I think they’ll be more energized, run faster, and jump higher. I’m sure our players want to run up and down the floor and get in as many dunks in as they can,” he added.

Fraraccio also explains how the new floor benefits not only the basketball players, but also volleyball players, wrestlers and cheerleaders.

“Our gym is a great place for physical education and sports. It’s an electric place for our teams to compete and shatter the dreams of our opponents. I’m honored and proud to represent Riverview athletics and look forward to many victories,” Fro said.

Riverview is very thankful for this new court, and Fraraccio goes as far to say that it is “priceless.”

“It’s wonderful that our school district facility and athletic leaders decided to place a new floor at Riverview. Our RHS administration and athletic director were key in communicating and coordinating the production,” Fro said.
