Hudson named ‘Player to Watch’ for 2021
JC Fleming ‘24
Kai Hudson, a senior at Riverview, was recently named ‘Player to Watch’ for the 2021 season.
Hudson is comfortable in the spotlight as he was one of the very few freshmen to make the Varsity roster. Hudson has been a force over the past three years, and he is taking it easy this year. Hudson is on track to break both the all-time groundball
record, as well as the all-time takeaway records, both currently held by Jake Day ’19. Hudson is now only 20 takeaways and 33 groundballs from breaking these records after only two games, both wins.
Hudson is not only a four-year varsity athlete, but he is also the first ever two-time captain.
Being named captain comes with many responsibilities on and off the field. Captains are expected to be leaders and are chosen very thoughtfully by past captains. Hudson was the only player in Rams history to be named captain as a junior. This early selection shows the respect he gained from his teammates over the years.
Hudson so far has led the Rams to a very promising 2-0 start, the first victory being over Lakewood Ranch and the second against Palmetto Ridge. The Rams also have many other key players, and with Will Evans (senior captain) and Tyler Horiuchi (senior captain) leading the midfield, and Blake Quigley (senior captain) leading the attack, the Rams are looking to have a remarkable season.
Some other notable players are goalie Chris Johnson ’21. Johnson has been holding the cage and leading the defense. JC Fleming ‘24 at attack along with Ken Keiser ’22 are looking to put up big numbers as the season progresses. Kevin Southerland ’22 at midfield is looking to have a significant role in the Rams' offense this season.
Most notably, the Rams team would be astray if it were not for the coaching staff led by Pete Delisser. Delisser is accompanied on the sideline with Joey Schwab, Jack Cox, Ryan Burns, and Drew Simeon.
