HONORED FOR SPORTS JOURNALISM--Husband Rick Bliss and daughter Sheila flank Riverview Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Pat Bliss. Bliss was recognized for her 39 years of support of the school's athletic program through Ram Page coverage.

Riverview just conducted its annual Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Aug. 31.

The ceremony saw many new and old faces.

The Hall of Fame ceremony serves as an opportunity to recognize and honor various athletes, coaches, sports journalists and fellow members who have contributed any kind of effort or service to the RamNation athletic group.

This year’s event was set up by former Athletic Director Jim Ward, current Athletic Director Rod Dragash and Principal Erin DelCastillo.

Brielle Campbell, one of the freshman cheerleaders, gave a first-person point of view on the event, since she was on hand to honor the 1995 national champion cheerleading squad being inducted.

“Varsity cheerleaders and some freshmen stood in the stands and cheered on some of the new members of the Hall of Fame, including some of the old cheerleaders that were being added. It was a medium-sized ceremony with about one hundred people,” Campbell said.

This year’s ceremony had many recipients, including the 1992 State Champion Ram Baseball team, headed by Coach Larry Altier, the National Champion cheerleader squad, headed by Coach Jo Ivey, and team Doctor, Aaron Mattes, who treated athletes’ injuries Pat Bliss, the Ram Page advisor from 1980-present. People who claimed the award were also given T-shirts and 5x7 plaques.

To commemorate their work, 10x13 versions of their plaques will be displayed on the gymnasium’s lobby wall.
