When talking about the Technology Student Association (TSA) Competition, what usually comes to mind is an event with difficult computation tasks for students with high IQs; however, this championship is much more than that. The CTE Department Chairperson Deb Berman and 21 members of the TSA Club attended the TSA State Conference held in Orlando February 27 to March 2 with great success.

After preparing for almost 7 months, the RHS TSA Club and clubs from several other schools in Florida attended this conference where they were tested in leadership and problem-solving skills through 35 different events as varied as music production and forensic science.

The club started 4 years ago and has gone to the nationals every year. The year 2019, however, seems to be especially stunning for the students.

“I think this is our best year yet, and I think the students felt like that too,” Berman said.

Indeed, the results are impressive. Out of the 21 events the team participated in, the students placed in the top 10 in 12 of them. In two of those events, the team placed in the top 3.

From the many participants in this competition, there are a few stars who stood out. These students earned a spot at the national conference in Washington D.C: Daniel Silva, Alex Torres, Marcus Ball, Ileana Guglielmi, and Aidan O’Horan.

Daniel Silva and Alex Torres, who have been in the club for about a year, earned the second place in Music Production. Furthermore,

Marcus Ball, Ileana Gugliemi and Aidan O’Horan earned third place in the Technology Bawl.

“When I first started the club, we had 3 students… now we have more than 30,” Berman expresses.

TSA Club is indeed a club with a diverse group of numerous students who are free to express their own skills. Their journey has been long, and they will continue growing… and carrying more victories with them.
