Summer is fast approaching, or as some students may say, not fast enough. For underclassmen, however, summer poses a huge challenge—how to get a ride.
Sarasota County Area Transit can get students almost anywhere in Sarasota, consistently and on time. Students can get an unlimited ride pass for May through August for only $30. This is a great option for those students who do not want to plead constantly for rides from their friends and family.
Sophomore Jake Neubour, used this system last year. “I got it because I couldn’t get a ride from my friends or parents every day, but I still wanted to go to friends’ houses and go fishing. I actually enjoyed using the SCAT bus—it was very consistent and clean,” Neubour said.
“I will be driving this summer, but I might pick up a pass anyways because they’re so cheap, and if I’m going somewhere on a SCAT route, I’d rather take that than spend the money on gas,” he added.
The SCAT bus system can also store a bike while a passenger rides, so in the scenario where a destination may be a bit from a SCAT stop, one’s bike can be stored while riding so that it can be used when he or she reaches the drop off.
“I actually really enjoyed it because they had no problem with me bringing several fishing rods on my ride, or even a small cooler. If I wasn’t driving this summer, I would buy it again,” says Billy Sherry ’21.
A clean, safe and affordable ride to almost any location in town is exactly what Riverview students need this summer, and Sarasota County Area Transit should be considered before forking out endless cash to a friend
